I’ve got an older Tempo 3 gallon plastic gas tank that was leaking gas around the gasket where the fuel gauge is mounted. So I got a new gasket. When I took the old gasket off, there was no gasket cement or sealant – just the rubber gasket. So I didn’t use any sealant on the new gasket. She’s still leaking when she sits in the hot boat. Should I have used a sealant?
No sealant. See if the pick up assembly is warped. Those were the worst tanks ever made. If gas didn’t leak out, then rain water leaked in. It always amazes me that Tempo never got sued for those things. Best use is to cut them in half with a hand saw. They make very robust drain pans.
Looks like it wasn’t the gasket but the threads where the brass fuel line connector screws into the tank. I found out when I had it apart and blew into the pick-up tube. I removed the connector and put some pipe thread dope on and it now seems okay. I’ll let it sit in the sun awhile and see what happens.
