Tubs, a lesson you’ll not soon forget, but learned the hard way!
I use to cringe every time I went to hand crank my grandfather’s
F-12 Farmall tractor, as “kick backs” were no fun!Mag plate is now cleaned up, and I’m awaiting advise on what
Military Surplus coil to try to obtain, and perhaps where.
I have a couple of ZongKong coils I could try, but decided
against using them on the last project, as the green Sierra coils
were apparently “better”.For kicks, I re-tested the Eisemann coil from the Lockwood today.
Primary with the ohm meter .4 to .7, secondary, when I could get
a reading at all, it averaged around 13 k ohms.
I could get no reading on the secondary using my old analog ohm meter.I threw it on the Stevens tester, and I did get if to fire at around 2 amps.
I’m guessing that the secondary is buggered?Prepare to be boarded!

Thanks Stanley! I just received a grip for my Mercury KD4 from Big Rich today!
Did you use the original Eisemann coil rods to make the laminate that goes through
the Military coil?Prepare to be boarded!

January 31, 2020 at 7:57 pm #193684Yes,I used the same rods. You’ll use about 2/3 or less than the original coil used.Get them as evenly spaced around the long bolt and insulating tube as you can, then put some shrink tubing on the part sticking out both ends. Then you can get it back between the heels and re-install the bolt.
January 31, 2020 at 8:16 pm #193686Thanks Stanley! Coil is on the way. How did your Lockwood start and run with the conversion?

nice and tight!Prepare to be boarded!
February 6, 2020 at 10:52 am #194103I installed the new Military grade coil this morning, and
and trying to determine what mfd condenser to use.
Would this use the same condenser as the non military
Scintilla coils?I was trying to determine what the Military used these coils
on, going by their numbers. I find some references to them,
but nothing that leads me to their usage or what condenser
goes with them.
The number on the coil is……
97403-13206E0140
Thanks for your thoughts.Prepare to be boarded!
February 6, 2020 at 12:13 pm #194114I assumed output on coil was close to original,so I just used recommended condenser replacement- .32 mfd which translates to Echlin FA-49 or EP-125.
