Need help with dimensions for these 2 bolts. They are slightly different in length from side to side. I plan on having these bolts made locally. Hole OD on my muffler shells is 5/8″, although some were 1/2″ depending on mfg. date.
Attached picture is that an AOMCI member who has made his own.
Those listed on ebay are of the same length. I may end up buying them just to have something to work from.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I know nothing about your bolts, but, a guy can buy tools for measuring threads & bolt diameters, even thread chasers for repairing threads will function. I used thread chaser tools on many Mrcury internal gearcase threads to repair tthem, a common tool.
March 3, 2024 at 11:32 pm #285497The e-bay bolts look to be nothing more than standard hex head hardware bolts with a tubular bushing slipped over…. might be a functional replacement but far from original looking.
Unless memory fails me ( not unusual) there was an article in the “Antique Outboarder” years ago about these bolts, with dimensioned drawings.

March 4, 2024 at 8:01 am #285502Thank Joe.
Being I have the Muffler Shells, it may be easier to reverse engineer the bolt for dimensions.
Thread length would be thickness of mounting flange and a few extra threads.
Mine has 5/8 dia muffler shell holes.
I like the member design, just need to figure out a few dimension to it, not a biggy. Lol, I’ve said that before!

this is from the July 2010 issue of the Antique Outboarder.
It may or may not be helpful.

I see from the drawings these bolts are 1/4″ X 28 threads per inch. That thread is just a common 1/4″ fine thread, very easy to find.

March 4, 2024 at 9:49 pm #285530Good find, I’ll check out the article.
I see it was noted the mounting flanges were prone to stripping and breakage.
Using a threaded stud and altered bolt design shown in the article is a good idea.
Thanks for finding!
March 6, 2024 at 3:49 pm #285589Dave, did you find this article on this site somewhere.
I’d like to read the entire article and I Don’t see where it’s available in the Antique Outboarder Archives.

March 6, 2024 at 6:04 pm #285596I have the issue. I can copy it and send it to you. PM me your address or email as it’s only 2 pages. I could probably just send you a scan.
