Progress is happening on the Chief!

I could not find a decent Drip Tray no matter how many ads I posted, so decided to repair the one i had. I am pretty happy with the results, you can hardly notice the repair now.

Just need to polish out some scratches, but the bulk of the repair is complete.

I then tackled a crack on the tower. Welded and polished out. That repair has vanished now as well!

Decided to weld on a new STOP TAB while i was at it as the old one had broken off, likely causing the crack in the first place! Still have some dremel work to do to shape the tab, but its on there.

Next stop was the tilt quadrants. They were cracked and in horrible shape. Could not find decent ones, so made up some from new material. Not totally stock now, but good examples are hard to find.

Working on a coil mod as well. This one is a bit trickier than most, but should not be a problem.

I plan on first milling down the width to 7/16″, then drilling out the rivets, and removing enough laminates to get it to 7/16″ tall.

Then I will stagger cut the laminations, just off center, re assemble, and rivet them back together.

            Thats the plan anyways.

              Great job, eh.
Can’t wait to see the finish product.
IMHO the 29 Lockwood Silent Chief is one of the most beautiful outboards ever produced. As my artist wife says, it looks like scupture.

Looks great, Chris. I hope tour ignition mod works out. It would be awesome to see it on the water this summer.
