Is there a Lockwood outboard group on FB? I’ve three different Lockwood motors I’d love to learn more about but I’m not a Facebook member.

November 25, 2019 at 7:01 am #188006Beautiful 62-T, Tubs. 49morphew you don’t have to go to Facebook for answers. Lots of knowledge right here on this forum. What models do you have and what are your questions?

November 25, 2019 at 9:49 am #188010I agree with Wayne Tubs, that 62T is a beauty to look at. I picked up 3 Lockwood motors at an auction about a year and a half ago. A 62T 72T and a 1930 Silent Ace. They’re all currently on the back rack for the future. I bought them because they’re interesting and not too common. I’m just curious why a private group for a specific outboard is on FB and not on the site that exists within the club for that very purpose. I’m NOT trying to ruffle any feathers and I’m NOT judging anyone either. I would only be a casual observer to this group at this time anyway as I have no experience to draw from that pertains to these motors
November 25, 2019 at 11:29 am #188014Possibly because as we all know it is not just members that own outboards. So with that being said a group on FB could easily translate into gaining more members, leads for motors, and such.
FB pages were not nor do I believe they were created to take the place of this site, but rather to facilitate garnering the attention of other like minded persons looking for info about these old outboards.
Yes there will be info posted on the platform that you may not see here, but if truth be known, it probably has already posted on our site but it is more than likely been buried, because of the length of time since it was originally posted.
While we have a presence while searching for old outboards, we all should be aware that there are 3 places to go to look for something, Google, Facebook and Youtube.
There is no other place that someone will go, UNTIL they find the link for our site. They will almost always go to one of those 3 first. Period.
While we clearly have the market on the knowledge of these ancient and epic motors, we do not have the market on marketing our club.
We are getting there, just not quite there yet.

classicomctools@gmail.comNovember 25, 2019 at 12:10 pm #188018Our local boat club FB appeals to a different generation – by extending our ‘coverage’, (including FB and YouTube videos of meets we have had going back years) we go on a premise that our forum (and it’s extensive know-how, just as this site has) will be found in the search. It’s nothing new, but I prefer the old tech because it’s what I enjoy and am used to.

November 25, 2019 at 1:31 pm #188021Morphew, if you go to the members only section, inner sanctum, special interest groups, Lockwood you will find some info then a way to contact Bill the group leader.
As for the FB groups they are not put up by AOMCI. Some are led my members but only because they wanted to put up a group dedicated to something they like.
So far there are only 2 AOMCI FB pages and they just say the same stuff we chat about here.
A little recent history, when I joined around 1998 there was no AOMCI web site. Guess what? Some people wanted it and some did not. And for the same reasons. Let’s all just enjoy the outboards wherever we get to see, touch, hear or smell them.Edit, there was a web page when I joined. That was it. One page with a printable form to join and mail back.
