      Thanks. I got the skeg on and sealed up with the spaghetti seal and ultra black tonight. I’m going to replace the impeller tomorrow. I see some videos people put 3M weatherstrip adhesive or another sealant around the plate below it to form a vacuum. I’ve never done that before. Interesting. Just cleaned everything up and replaced.

        Matter of fact, OMC used to install the plate with no sealer under it. Then at some time in history, they decided to put sealer under the plate to prevent exhaust gasses from entering the pump intake. So it isn’t a critical thing, but I go with the sealant. Most any gasket sealer will do.

          Yes, there is a big difference between brand new parts going together at the factory and sealing up old crusty pieces….The fit is always nice when going together at the factory, which is why they didn’t need to use sealer………..But, I would not use sealer in between the SS plate and aluminum impeller housing…The SS plate surface can be cleaned up nicely, as can the impeller housing…I wouldn’t use sealer because you don’t want it to ooze out into the pump cavity and mess up the impeller performance…
