I am looking for the proper lower unit gear oil to use for a 1948 Martin 7.2 hp and a 1956 15 hp evinrude outboard motor.
Thank you all for your help in the past.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Walmart has sae 40 “racing oil” by Valvolene. Don’t put that stuff in fuel mix though.

The Martin 60 (7.2hp) uses grease and not oil. If you have a Martin 75 (7.5hp) it uses SAE 40 oil. In the Martin 60 I use Lubriplate 105, but many folks on this forum speak highly of Cornhead grease, which I believe they said is made by or for John Deere.

interesting…..what is today’s advantage of grease compared with oils ? wouldn’t modern oils not lubricate properly or better than grease ?
