Just wondering if there are any suggestions or cautions, on how best to drop the lower unit on one of these little motors?
I want to clean up and inspect the gears and waterpump. I would also like to try and reduce some of the “dings” in the exhaust pipe that have accumulated over the years..
This is my first time working on one of these, so don’t want to create more havoc!

Should be 2 bolts on the exhaust tube under the powerhead; and 2 screws on the underside of the cavitation plate. There are 2 ball valves that need to be checked to be sure they move freely. Someone will probably post a schematic. NABMD

Don’t know beans about the gear case. The dents in the exhaust tube can be improved by taping a socket and a long extension down the inside of the pipe. Gradually using bigger sockets and a hammer you can make that exhaust look much better.

Thanks so much Tubs for taking the time to prepare the “lesson”.
It all came apart as you described, no issues.
You had mentioned that little piston pump in a previous post, and it was interesting to to actually see it and the little cam on the driveshaft. Pump piston was free and moved snugly in it’s cylinder. Slight wear on the end in contact with the little lobe.
                Neat little motor.
                Bill.
