      OK Guys,
I’m just going to put my ignorance on full display here. I have the flywheel and points cam off my FD 20. Cant get the mag plate off. Can anyone offer up the procedure for getting it off please?

      Struggling in the basement,
      Wannabe

Any locking plate under the mag screwed to the bottom.

There are 4 screws through the mag plate.

2 short ones, and 2 longer ones, that also run through the laminations of the coil. They are spaced equally apart, around the circumference of the inner hole that the crank runs through.

Undo the four screws holding it down.

You can see three of them here but there’s one more out of sight in this pic.

Mumbles, love the custom coil locating ring!

Mine only had 3 screws. Someone back in 1979 according to the note written on the flywheel must have broke it off in there. It says 8-19-79 coils, condensers, points 0.20 in red magic marker.

It started life as a fixture for holding mag plates so I could rebush them but when I realised I was flogging a dead horse, it became a locating ring. It’s about an inch thick and it has to be warmed up a bit on a cold day so it will slide over the aligning thingies on the mag plates. ☺

The locating ring would be a fun lathe project,
if I had something that big in diameter, and
could figure out how to hold it.
How did you make your Mumbles?

Made it on the 12 X 36. To get the stock, my metal supplier will cut a cookie any thickness and diameter I ask for. That sure beats scrounging around the metal shop looking for crops!

My technique was to email Frank Robb and order one, lol.
