There was another one called LecoLift in the 1950s. It was a small thing mounted on the dash. It had a knob that was pulled and pushed to tilt the motor up manually/hydraulically. The oil reservoir/cylinder was a metal oil cup attached to the knob behind the dash. Two big brackets were on the rear of the transom attached to the motor.

Oh interesting!!!! I wonder if that is the one my friend had… the knob he had was much smaller than the one in the photo above. Either way, I love this concept of the manual lift… Now I seem to have two options to look out for! Thanks everyone!

Thanks Dave – this is SUPER helpful. Does anyone out there see any reason why this might NOT work with a ’64 Evinrude 40 hp? Since it was used with merc, perhaps the setup might be different? I’m hoping it will work. So here’s my stupid question of the day… What do the haudraulic arms connect to? I’m assuming I mount something on the transom, but does anyone know what the other side connects to? I’m guessing it has to be something on part #72 in the diagram I am attaching… Thoughts anyone?

A friend had a vintage 1950s Leco-Lift that operated a Johnson 35HP which worked perfectly.  Small knob with oil cup reservoir behind the wood dash.

Yes – I have it – never used it since it was for a Mercury and all my motors are OMC.  I couldn’t figure out a way to make it work for me.  So, if you are interested, I’ll be happy to sell it…

Had to go back and read thread again, so you ended up finding one?

I have the Dole Tilt on my 1977 Mercury 850 that came with BW Montauk 17 I just bought.  Mine is in good working order, but shows corrosion on the hose fittings etc, was thinking could be a good idea to replace some or all of it.
