      Hello, working on a 1963 merc 110 9.8hp.replaced water pump grommet and now pumping good.cleaned and gapped points,replaced condensers.took carb and fuel pump apart and cleaned out. Engine starts and shuts off after 10-20 seconds. Hard to restart.primer bulb stays hard?? Any help appreciated

          Is the outer pump body supposed to have 2 check valved

            With it running the bulb should be soft as fuel is flowing. Check valves may be reversed. Or sucking air somewhere.

                2 check valves are needed. change to the newer pump with larger check valves. easy to do. 1 914 310 7086 Dave.

                  update! replaced fuel pump and engine runs great. does the idle mixture screw adjust fuel or air on this engine
