KD 3 may have Eisemann or Scintilla magnetos. You can download and print information for each.  Tilloston carburetor may also be downloaded and printed. Note that Mercury [art numbers for magneto and carburetors are not same as makers.

You have to be a bit of a detective to figure out the  Little Mercs as paperwork is not easy to come; Best source is a *RARE) untouched example. Taking an incomplete, risted stuck piece of junk to a running motor is an achievement. Sourcing all the missing cosmetic itemns to win a ribbon winning gem is even more of and achievement.

I am a pretty good detective at finding parts so far. Mine has the Scintilla ignition, and I have a new coil, condenser, and a set of points. I was able to find a NEW porpeller shaft that is not pitted and a new seal. Life is easier now that I have the cross reference for the old and newer part numbers.

Having the part names will help me determine is something is packing or a seal for example.  If I know what the parts are called it would make things a little easier. If I get it running and dependable is more important to me than searching for all the missing sheet metal and $50 decals. It would be different if I had a donor dead parts motor to make a complete one.

The more I study the New Parts List the deeper my understanding of the Kiekhaefer way of doing things.

            John, My Mercury disc shows a KB-1, KB-1A, KB-2, KB3, KB-4, KB-4-1 serial numbers 93176 – 94425, KB-4, 95183-95317, 95721-95722, 96983-95985 . I list no numbers for KB5 which is a 11 cu. in. 2 cylinder motor.  Then it skips to KD-4 models.

TheKD4-1119631-123637,  95996-123637. Should fall in this serial number 108525

. Is it a one or two cylinder motor? The KB’s were 1 & 2 cylinder & the KD’s were 2 cylinder. &  your serial number is 108525. You say you have a new set of points & coil. Are you a 1 or 2 cylinder motor?

P.S. I looked in the Mercury service manual reprint white cover book & it shows Mark 7  type motors & lists the KD3 but very little data on it. It shows the KB 4 & 5 11 cu. in. motors that are older twins but little on thr KD3. I do have the original blue cover Mercury manual 1940-1965 that I will look today for serial numbers matching yours. I’m not sure on your serial number because it lists a 11 cu. in twin & I think yours is a single. Am I correct or not?
