      On page 25 and 26 of the Mercury Mark 58 parts manual under bottom cowl assembly part number 21041 with reference number 2 is a part that I can’t locate on my motor and I don’t know what it is. The part is described as: “Insert, tap lock”. Can anyone tell me where on the motor this part is located and what it is for?

        Hello Johnny,
        The tap lock insert installs into the bottom cowl casting where the front cowl attaching knob’s threaded shank threads into it. Said another way, it is a (fairly small) threaded insert.
