I was testing compression on a Mercury Classic 50 hp 4 cyl but I struggled to get the tester down to the bottom cyl. Any tips?

Where does one get one genuine Mercury tester? I normally work on OMC’S but I recently picked up a couple of Mercury 50s and I’m excited about getting to know more about them. I’ve heard you need some special tools.

merc 50 and a Classic 50 (45hp) my two biggest engines in past days. Absolutely great engines imho a bit thirsty but gas was cheap then . trolled all day no hick-ups

my 2005 ETEC 75 is now my "best engine ever" sips gas and oil…. idles all day at half liter of gas/hour smokeless odorless

Maybe if OMC had a special compression tester, too, they would have been able to build a better-looking engine than the Evinrude lark.

Oh geeze….here we go again… Can’t we all just get along? OMC and Merc guys can live in harmony.

Or you could drill a hole through the cowl and not neeed a special tool. Not saying this is a good choice……
