Now, getting back to a compression tester for a Merc, I think the one you want is a Quicksilver 91-29287. It’s the stubby one for getting into tight places.

          Wanna be,
I agree, anything built back then needs help no matter how it is spelled! Gets old too.

Merc did that because only three cylinders were necessary to keep up with the OMC’s of the day. The forth cylinder was an accessory. 😀

I’m an OMC guy that has read ‘Iron Fist’ twice and haven’t lost my sense of humor.

IMO the hero in outboard motors is Mr. Charles D. Strang.

Thanks for the tips folks. Did not mean to start a fight between Merc and OMC folks. I like them both. I’ve found the OMCS easier to work on so far but i’m looking forward to working on some more mercury motors and ill need some help for sure. Thanks again.

Yes. It was mine that was removed. All I said was OMC’S ARE FOR FISHERMAN AND MERCS ARE FOR RACERS.

Personally, I didn’t see anything "offensive" about it, but if someone does, I’m sorry. Sheesh, maybe it’s time I go find some real men to join up with, instead of babies

And yes, I like both too, but I prefere motors that do not require an "over the top" list of special tools to work on. I can’t see the logic in that, when a true fishing motor really should be fixed and/or repaired in a timely fashion……and hopefully before the boat drifts toward the water fall 😀 😀
