This is in regard to Mercury KE, KF and KG ‘7’ series motors. Today I was looking at a pile of parts with a tape measure. I think I saw that KE-7 Mercurys have a 19" (face to face) housing and the KF-7 and KG-7 motors have a 19-1/2" long housing. In the pile was a Mercury housing that was 26" long.
What do you suppose it would have been used for and is it a rare part ?
Yes, the KE7 housing is shorter – I was thinking 3/8". Anyway, I use one on my rat motor
because it is shorter. Have to match drive shafts to the tower, usually.
The 26" one may have been a sailboat model. They are typically longer than service towers.
