I saw this great article by Gary Orloff in Jan 2008 AO
Maybe check the pump housing to determine if
installed incorrect I.e. 180 degrees out?

More obvious is the little metal key in place on the prop shaft that actually is what engages the water pump impeller so the impeller spins with the prop shaft

As far as the alignment im not sure. I only removed the cover and didnt mess with the cartridge. Dave has suggested I pull the lower, submerge it and use a drill to spin the shaft and see what kind of pressure it is putting out. The rubber and metal washer were there on the tube. Dave also suggested pulling some things from the top end of the motor to see if there is any impellers in the water jackets. Forgive me for not knowing the proper terms I didn’t even know the motor didn’t have heads until Dave just told me, outboards aren’t my in my wheel house but Im gonna get this one figured out sooner or later..

I remember the cartridge hole being oval shaped instead of perfectly round, anyone know which way the oval goes? Maybe someone before me put it in wrong but if I knew the proper direction i could at least verify that it is in the correct position
