I’m trying to remove the cover just forward of the prop so that I can replace the impeller on a KF9. I assume that you have to turn it clockwise to remove it….in other words the opposite way that you would normally remove a standard bolt or screw. I’m using a punch and hammer and not having any luck. The cover will probably be unusable by the time I get it off. Any suggestions? I have tried heat with a propane torch….maybe not enough, though. Are replacement covers available?

      Any suggestions?

      Thanks,
      Jim

You have to turn it clockwise to remove the water pump cover on a Mercury KF9 as they are commonly referred to as "Left hand threads" !

The cover will not come off….I’ve used a heavy hammer and punch, and can’t get it to budge. I think that I will have to cut it out. Are there any replacement covers available?

Of course there are. You are not the only one to have destroyed a cover trying to get it off. It happens often in salty or polluted water. . . 🙄

Problem solved…..I finally got the cover off, and used a piece of two inch pvc pipe to reinstall the impeller.
