I have a chance to pick up a 1959 Mark 15A. The motor is complete and allegedly runs (not able to test before purchase). It at least turns over with compression. Everything looks good on the motor with the exception that someone painted it black in the past. The original paint looks like it was cloud white. I have always loved the looks of these Mark motors, but the only one I have ever owned was a Mark 5 which is a much simpler animal. It appears that this is a one year only model? Are there any issues to look out for other than the usual Merc auto transmission quirks? This isn’t something I would run on a regular basis, I would probably get it mechanically sound and do a cosmetic restoration, and use it a couple times a year. Is this worth picking up, or should I run for the hills? Fair price to offer?

good motor but the water pump is hard to do. make sure you have the water up to the lower dyna float before running it.

I dunno…if it’s black, it sure wouldn’t be worth a lot to me. Yet the parts are worth something….how’s about $100? I feel like that would be generous on that, too….

          Long live American manufacturing!
