Hi all,
I am in the middle of restoring a Mark 40H that I found in a shed behind a cottage I just recently bought. (Whoo Hoo!) Anyway….I need some advice….before I begin to repaint the cowling, I needed to "repair" some of the areas where the bolts fasten the front cowling to the power head. The original bolt holes had been chewed up to the point that the bolts would not hold the cowling tight and slip right through without using really oversized washers. I have made an attempt to "fix" the problem using "JB Weld." Now I am second guessing my repair job thinking that maybe the JB Weld will snap away when I tighten up the bolts. I realize that the proper repair would be to take the cowling to an aluminium welding shop and have the fastening areas built back up again, but I am trying to avoid any real big expense. What do you guys think? All suggestions and comments would be appreciated.

Muskoka SeafleaJanuary 29, 2017 at 4:01 pm #52016I imagine it would last for a bit, how much do you plan to use it? Of course welding it up would be more permanent. Not sure that would be stupid expensive to weld up. I hind sight, it would have been cheaper before the JB application……
January 29, 2017 at 4:07 pm #52019Thanks! I can easily remove the JB Weld…..maybe I’ll get a few quotes…..I just want to make sure that who ever I get to weld it back up won’t make it worse…..
January 29, 2017 at 5:26 pm #52026I agree with Ron above. I don’t think you are talking big money here welding it correctly.
Also, that is a pretty sought after motor. It would be worth it to put a little money in it to do it right. We are not talking about a 50 dollar motor here right.
Are you up around Gravenhurst area then? Myself and Ron are both in your general area of Ontario.

January 29, 2017 at 6:00 pm #52031Hi Dave,
Not too sure….the material around all four bolt areas were so chewed up..I just assumed they were a hole when I tried to rebuilt it…….
