      Hey guys and gals!
Hoping someone can help me out. I have what I believe to be a 1959 Mercury Mark 6A. In sandalwood. Which conflicts with everything I have read about this year 6A.
Any Mercury gurus out there can maybe shed some light on this for me?

OldMercs.com lists Sandlewood as a color for Mark 6A. Not sure how many came in that color.

            MERCURY OUTBOARD PAINT

            MERCURY PAINT CODES

            Submitted by John Bennig

I have compiled the following over several months mostly from John’s web site. Everything is from other people, so I cannot personally say it is accurate – but I believe it is.

First, on bare aluminum a self-etching primer must be used. People use different types of paint, but a favorite seems to be PPG “concept”. It is a single stage urethane. I have heard that the only safe way to use this paint is with a fresh air respirator – the “chipmunk cheeks” type will not filter out the poisonous vapors.

These numbers are for paint used in a spray gun. The “DCC” prefix is used unless you want to use a clear coat. Then the prefix is “DBC”. The following are PPG numbers:

            · 3398 Cloud White — May need flattening to look original – alternative 1992 VW Cashmere White

            · 91786 Dover White — someone suggested this as an alternative to Cloud White

            · 45183 Cedar Green — Windsor Green Dupont # centari 7498A

            · 3255 46-90 GM Dark Green — an alternative to Windsor Green

            · 981 Glossy Silver — add flattening agent to duplicate “Dull Aluminum

            · 73845 Holiday Red — ’93 Izuzu Coral Reef

            · 72146 Sunset Orange —- add a little flattener

            · 22998 Sand Tan

            · 2824 Marathon Red — (Firecracker Red)

            · 72358 Double Red

            · 51051 Burgandy — This may be too light. Try 51938 and reduce the metal content and size.

            · F2266K Quicksilver Green — This is a Dupont Chromabase number. Plasticoat spray can #312

            · Possible match 401093 but also not correct — all have too much, and too large metallic

            · pieces

            · 19114 Bimini Blue (bluish green)

            · 2824 Matador Red

            · 15003 Sarasota Blue

            · 2000 Marlin Blue—Two tone blue-one of two

            · 4290 Gulf Blue—-Two tone blue-two of two— Dupont # centari 7498A,

I have not found paint codes for the following Mercury colors. Can someone else help?

            · Canyon Copper

            · Sandalwood

            · Metallic Charcoal

            · Buckskin Beige

            · Aztec Copper

            · Cavalry Brown

For spray cans Dupli-Color DE 1650 Cast Coat Aluminum engine enamel is the best match for dull aluminum that I have seen. DE 1644 Racing Green engine enamel is close to cedar green. Both are supposed to be gas-proof.
