SO here’s my dilemma:
I have restored my grandfather’s 1955 Crestliner and ’55 Johnson 25hp.
I also have the original stern light that was mounted on the port side rear wood seat via a hole drilled through the seat. The light is collapsible and can slide up or down as needed.
I really don’t want to drill a hole in my brand new wood seat for this light and I for sure don’t want to drill a hole through the aluminum corner brace at the rear of the boat as I’ve see others do.
I have remote control steering and cables on the motor so it is also difficult finding a place on the transom to mount a bracket.
Ideally, I would like to clamp it on the wood gunnels or even clamp it to the edge of the seat but I can’t find anything to use.
any suggestions?July 17, 2020 at 12:20 pm #208908July 17, 2020 at 12:33 pm #208909July 17, 2020 at 12:43 pm #208913get one of those lights and take the bracket off for yours
July 19, 2020 at 8:07 pm #209197Have thought about this too. A dilemma to be sure. I have thought about maybe mounting the vintage light on a nice piece of 1x material then clamping that to the seat or corner bracket in such a way that it can raise/lower without interference. Sort of a non-permanent solution.
ScottJuly 23, 2020 at 4:27 pm #209600I found these clamps that I’m going to use to try and mount my stern light.
They are for clamping on a wooden deck rail and mounting tiki torches. I plan to install the clamp on the edge of my wood gunnel rails or on the edge of my rear left seat (my back seat is a u-shaped bench – Crestliner).
the hole in the extended portion of the bracket is large enough for my 3/4″ stern pole to slide into and I can clamp it down. I’ll need to find a way to keep the thumbscrews from scratching the chrome.i’ll update if/when it works!
