I got LUCKY…LUCKY…LUCKY!!! Motor hasnt been fired since it left the factory, was still packed in the box with everything…owner bought it in 1950 but died of a heart attack a year later before using it. Tags were still attached to the handle. The original 1940s Champion spark plugs are still in the motor. Rubber handles are still like new. Gas tank is completely clean.

February 13, 2021 at 8:51 pm #230487Congrats, it really amazing to be able to see exactly how it left the factory, along with the supporting paperwork.
It’s a real time capsule. Shoots some additional pictures of the power head with the cover off.
When I restore a motor it always very helpful to reference a factory original motor to see what type of hardware they used, what bolt heads were painted, exact color of prop etc…. again nice find.

Bob DThe motor is brand new, there isnt a bit of paint loss to the transom bracket underside. A question…there is no gear oil leak near the prop but above where the seam/gasket where the lower unit pieces are bolted together, if you run your finger along it you get a little bit of a line of wet oil on your finger…is this something for me to worry about?
February 13, 2021 at 9:36 pm #230495Was it upside down in the box?

yes …they packed them that way…but i have no idea if the box was sitting upright or on its side or both all these years
February 13, 2021 at 10:02 pm #230499What a awesome find, that is a time capsule for sure. If that were mine I wouldn’t even attempt to start it, just keep everything the way it is including the factory packaging.

Well I finally found out what that weird looking flat wrench was for.We had several of them in never used condition at our resort I Thought they were for repairing Coleman lanterns or bicycle repair I only ever used one in desperation when no wrench of the right size was handy. -
