The motor is a 1954 Lightwin.
It was Paul’s brothers motor and he has passed away.
He looked at some flat back canoes but what he found
were more than he could spend so he decided to make
one to continue to use the motor. Several attempts
using out riggers were made to make it more stable but
weren’t very successful when It occurred to him to just
use the other 3rd.. The short side makes it more stable
than a row boat. As for the old Lightwin, well it’s not done
yet just being an outboard motor.

The little outrigger would make a handy storage area,
literally, right by your side…… or put some water in
it, and a "live well".
Gotta wonder how he got a water tight seal on those new
transoms?
I did something similar years ado with a homemade fiberglass/ribbed/cloth duck boat. Used C-Clamps to hold together on H2O. Sorry no pics..used 1,5 Gale motors.
