Hello members. We are hoping that you can help us determine the value of 2 antique outboards. One is an Evinrude stamped 1911 and the other is a Johnson of unknown age (but we seem to remember our Dad saying it was likely from 1914). No idea of the horsepower of either. We’d like to sell them, but need to know value. Hoping you can help! Thanks.
June 3, 2017 at 4:49 pm #58881The Johnson J25 is a 1925 1.5hp
The Evinrude I am GUESSING is a 1914. I am by no means an expert on these though, so wait for others to come along to verify that.
I don’t want to touch on value, too many varying opinions on that. Different geographic regions bring different pricing.
June 3, 2017 at 5:17 pm #58882The motors are currently on Vancouver Island. No idea where they came from as our Dad acquired them many years ago. The Evinrude has a 1911 stamp on the top of it, so we’re assuming that was the year it was produced? Nice to learn the horsepower of the Johnson. Thanks for your info. Very helpful.
June 3, 2017 at 5:34 pm #58883Model B Evinrudes are listed as 1915-1928. But that serial number doesn’t show up in the list. Odd. I’d hate to admit what I paid for my 1918, and drove 700 miles each way to get it.
June 3, 2017 at 6:03 pm #588851911 is the Patent date, not the year of manufacture. It is definitely not a 1911, that I can say for certain.
Frank, I had trouble with that serial number as well, doesn’t fall into the 1915 model B sequence, so was unsure?
June 3, 2017 at 7:48 pm #58891Thanks to you both, Frank and Chris. Hoping other members might weigh in, too. We’d appreciate any guesses on value.
June 3, 2017 at 7:58 pm #58892I can give you a rough idea.
The Johnson is easy. It is fairly common, and not real great cosmetically, no offense but trying to be honest. Guys would pay between $75 and $175 CDN I would guess in your area? Mumbles and Wedgie would know better as they live there.
The Evinrude RBM is worth more. If it were mine, I would probably want at least $400 CDN for it. Hard to tell from pictures. THey have been had for less, and have had more paid for them. Some would say that is WAY too much, some will say it is worth more.
Again, just ballparks.
June 3, 2017 at 8:07 pm #58893How close are you to Langford Janice? We have a very knowledgeable member that resides there. The rowboat motor is something I have not seen on local Craigslist in the past 12 or so years I’ve been looking.
June 3, 2017 at 8:27 pm #58894The Johnson in a 1935 model j-75. It is 1.4hp.
June 3, 2017 at 10:03 pm #58900Hi JaniceP, welcome aboard!
As stated, the serial number on your 29.25 lb Canadian built J-75 places it in the 1935 model year run. Value? That all depends. Does it run? Is it complete? General condition? Not wanting to rain on your parade, I pulled one out of a dumpster recently and just picked up another one in a lot of seven motors which I payed $50 for. Mind you, finds like this are few and far between. I’d say the more desirable Evinrude RBM is your cash cow here.
Where abouts on the Island are you located? I’m in North L. A., (Langford Area), a burb of Victoria.
Has anyone ever noticed how the J-75’s seem to share the same gearcase and mid section with the ’35 and ’36 300’s?
