Hello,
My name is Morgan. I live in Texas. I recently bought a house with my husband on a local creek. We were in the process of buying a little Jon boat with no motor and remembered we had seen a small trolling motor in our shed months ago when we were in the process of moving in. We didn’t think much of the motor, considering we had no vessel to run it on anyways.Well we pulled it out and decided to try and get it running again. We were under the assumption that it was made in the late 90’s until we started looking up identifying numbers engraved on the motor. I have come to the conclusion with my internet queries that it may be a 1947 Neptune Mighty Mite. I have found youtube videos and it’s identical, except I haven’t found any that still have the side plates with them. Everything on the motor looks great, no cracks, it’s not seized up, and it’s in pretty good condition. We are worried about trying to start it, we don’t want to mess anything up. We have seen them on ebay, though far and few between, between the prices of $400 to $750. Me and my husband are not particularly interested in vintage trolling motors, so we would rather sell it to someone who is. My only issue is finding information to know what it’s worth, or resources to get it started again.
I may not be in the right place to inquire about this particular motor, but I’m lacking resources in the motor department. Is there any advice, worth, or resource someone could point me in the direction of?
Photos attached.
Thank you,

For parts or diagrams, Doug Penn would probably be your best bet.

if you expect these amounts then I think you are wrong
probably those engines on Ebay were polished and built on a beautiful display
its better to follow Ebay if the ultimately price they asked was reached or not
sorry but "just my thoughts"btw; it is good looking and complete with the cowlings that’s at least a "plus"
but these little motors are not that uncommon
.February 8, 2016 at 10:59 pm #31652I never said I expected the prices, simply listed them as a reference as to what I found.
I feel that I was transparent in the fact that I don’t know much about them, which is why I reached out to get a round about figure on what these go for in the current antique motor market. I did not feel like the numbers I found were concrete, hence the forum post asking for guidance.Thank you for your thoughts.
February 9, 2016 at 12:32 am #31658I have four and paid between $30-$70 for each. A very basic and simple design, easy to work on with basic tools. Check the basics. Look for crud in the gas tank, clean the carb, check for spark. Let us know how things look and we will help you get it running.
If you have too many, AND not enough, you're a collector.
February 9, 2016 at 1:29 am #31667Morgan, location and motor condition affects motor prices. EBay often tends to mislead individuals to the motor’s actual worth. EBay sellers often inflate prices in hopes to gain more profit from from uninformed buyers or an impulse buy.
If your motor was in good running condition and needed no work or replacement parts like ignition components, then you could expect $175 to about $250 for your motor.
A non running, untested motor that is complete, but in good cosmetic condition could command about $75 to $125 dollars. People do like to using little motors for trolling with canoes. Unfortunately, they would have to do their own repairs and find replacement parts. The company went out of business several decades ago.
Again, location and condition of is every thing. I feel my suggestion is a fair estimate for the area around Texas metro areas. Areas that are bit more rural tend to command lower prices.
I hope this helps you out. Good luck with your sell. Thanks for visiting our site.
