Anyone have a digital parts manual for a 1936 – 37
OB64A Neptune, opposed twin, 6 hp?Photos of a correctly restored one would be nice also.
Anything in particular to “look out” for on these units?
Looks like one has to take the transom mount apart in
order to pull the exhaust manifolds from each side.
Is that correct? Is has the type of lower unit that turns, but the power head
stays stationary. Not sure how it all comes apart, but it’s
usually getting it back together that’s the problem. 🙂Prepare to be boarded!
February 20, 2019 at 8:47 pm #167721I got a OB64 last month and got it running, has bad teeth on Lower Unit gears and broken handle. Neptune Ned or Steve Andres bought out Doug Penn maybe he can help. It looks like the throttle sector on carburetor is a weak point. Mine was broken you can order a casting from the other Neptune site by Art DeKalb.
February 20, 2019 at 9:40 pm #167725MercuryMan, thanks for your reply. I have not tore into the L.U. gear box yet,
but hope the gears are okay. It did have a broken tiller handle, but I fixed it
up with some aluminum round stock and the lathe. My carb throttle sector
is okay, but I did obtain a new Bowden cable that’s more flexible than
the ancient one that was on the motor. Not sure what length to cut it yet,
or how to loop it, so there’s enough slack when turning the tiller handle
side ways.Prepare to be boarded!

Great looking machine work. Hope to see some progress photos as you bring this one back to life. You have some great motors in your collection!Bob

Bob, not sure where this project will take me, but I’ll start a thread
on “Current Projects” as I go along. I usually “learn” more by
sharing!Prepare to be boarded!

but do notice a few differences. The tiller handle mounts different,
and I can’t tell if the 38 still has the stationary power head, that is,
that the tiller only turns the lower unit.
Also, the end of the tiller handle on the 38 has a little eyelet.
I presume I should have a rubber grip, but wonder about that
eyelet. I do have a strange cross – drilled hole in the end of the
tiller handle that I’ve wondered “what for”.
Also, the 38’s muffler has a “back door” / inspection hole.
Mine does not.
Just noticed mine does not have the “horn” on the carb either.
I’d be happy if mine turns out half that nice….. heck, I’d be happy
if it just runs!Prepare to be boarded!
