I have been using the B6S plugs as an alternative to the J6C but now NGK is discontinuing the plug. It recommends BR6S as a replacement, does the R factor have any negative implications for my old outboard?
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and time.

July 3, 2021 at 2:37 pm #241849The R is for resistor style. Your AM radio and sensitive electronics won’t get scrambled using them but you may have a bit weaker spark at the plug if used on a points style ignition system. Resistor plugs are meant more for Capacitor Discharge (CD) ignition systems.
What’s this world coming to? No more B6S plugs? First it was the shorty bantam BM6A and BM7A plugs being dropped and replaced by resistor plugs and now the mother of all plugs, the B6S?
July 3, 2021 at 2:38 pm #241853The R is for resistor. They added a small resistor to help with radio noise from the ignition system. Should have no effect on sparkplug operation.

July 3, 2021 at 2:52 pm #241861According to a fellow called Ohms… the hightest voltage drop in the secondary path to ground would be in the non-conducting air-gap of the plug.
How much the noise suppressing resistor would affect the park’s ability to jump the gap would have to be measured with a scope.
anybody got one….Mr.Mohat maybe π

July 3, 2021 at 3:25 pm #241863The older points style magnetos in our motors need all the help they can get with strong magnets, clean and polished points, good condensers, solid core wires, soldered connections and good terminals to get a good spark at the plug. The last thing they need is a resistor in that chain.
True, a points motor will run with R plugs but it might suffer crappy idling and develop a high speed miss or stumble.
Can anyone confirm the B6S has been discontinued as I couldn’t find anything after searching for it?

July 3, 2021 at 7:44 pm #241893Well, that blows. My OMC classics all run better with the B6S than they did on Champions.

July 4, 2021 at 1:19 am #241904I bought eight of those 3510’s a month ago. West marine was selling them for $1.99. They were clearing them out. Tried first to buy them at O’Reileys then at Autozone. Person couldn’t find them in their inventory.
July 4, 2021 at 5:59 am #241905News flash: They are cancelling them because nobody in their right mind needs them anymore. Just us. I always liked my Champions anyway, but J6Cs are probably next. I better order a shop pack now…..
Long live American manufacturing!
