Does anyone have good recommendations for a kit to do plating at home, or a recommendation for a place to mail some stuff off to get it plated?

We’ve had good luck with Caswell kits.

Do they have good instructions on the prep necessary and other relevant info? I’ve heard some kits don’t have good results with adhesion of the plating due to the prep.

I think the instructions were adequate. We haven’t had any failures.

You can make your own kit.You need two pure nickle pieces,a trickle charger, distilled vinegar, salt and a glass container.I’ve plated a lot of small pieces this way with good results

Stanley, have any good examples of what you use for the nickle pieces?

The items I listed for a DIY kit are for plating brass. One of these strips, cut in two will last a long time. The most important thing in plating is having the pieces to be plated absolutely clean.

Stanley, how are you calculating your amperage and what are you using for a power supply?

                      I used a caswell 1 gal kit
Plated flywheel and cylinders on a 1930 folding lightweight
I also used a aquarium airbiator pump and a variable power supply
                      Worked great

I just use this old battery charger set to the 50 milliamp maintaining rate.
