Hello everyone, I haven’t been around much but having recently celebrated my daughters wedding I can now pay more attention to other things!
I’m trying to document different details for the motors I have and I’m trying to find out the original oil mixtures for the ones I have listed below:
1930 Johnson K-50 8
1935 Champion Model A 1.5
1936 Johnson K-80 9.3
1938 Champion D2D 4.4
1946 Champion Blue Ribbon 1J 4.2
1947 Martin 60 7.2
1947 Evinrude Sport Twin 4416 2
1953 Johnson TN-25 5
1953 Firestone 7.5
1955 Evinrude Aquasonic? 25
1956 Mercury Mark 25E 20
1957 Johnson JW-13 3
1957 Mercury Mark 30 Turbo 4 30
1983 Evinrude 15Now, what to run these at may be a separate discussion. I’ve read the oil ratio notes under the FAQ section and it seems I should just run a modern oil at the original mixture and let ’em smoke.
Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

Charts were recently posted for the OMC, which re-started started the usual oil war. And I’ll leave the Mercs to the dark side gurus
July 3, 2017 at 5:13 pm #60892All the Mercs are 50/1 with Mercury oil.

All the Mercs are 50/1 with Mercury oil.Regardless of year?
July 3, 2017 at 7:49 pm #60897Well, I did what I should have done first – a search within this forum.
Seems to be a highly debated topic without many clear answers.
July 3, 2017 at 8:13 pm #60899Look on the KG7 & KH7 label My KG7 runs just fine on Merc oil @ 50/1. Run it hard & go to 40/1. Everyone has their own mix opinion. Mk 30 likes it too!
From what I’ve read here, the early motors like sae 30 mixed with outboard oil. Help Garry!July 3, 2017 at 8:55 pm #60906deleted
July 3, 2017 at 8:56 pm #60907when mercury came out with the 50:1 oil they recommended it in all there motors they all have needle and ball bearings. that is what is required to use 50:1 oils. I usually use e little richer 40:1 in my old ones just me .in there Race motors double the oil at least. also recommended by mercury.
July 3, 2017 at 9:05 pm #60908Thanks for the mercury feedback.
July 3, 2017 at 9:18 pm #60909As for me, I just mix the oil per the motors instructions and ‘let em smoke” as you say. I don’t think many of us run these engine that many hours per year to really worry about it.
