Someone just sent me this link a couple of hours ago:

      http://www.cbsnews.com/news/almanac-the-outboard-motor/

CBS did a short retrospective story on Ole Evinrude and his outboards this morning because April 19th is his birthday. I thought members might be interested in seeing the clip.

Just wish Ole and Bess could alive today, I hope they are not rolling over in their graves.

If they were alive today I’m sure that Ole would be fascinated by the technology but dismayed by the state of the manufacturing sector.

Weren’t his motors designed with an expected ten year life span?

I’ll bet he’s smiling right now seeing his motors still running at sixty, eighty and even one hundred years old!

Bravo Zulu Ole and happy birthday!

Thanks for posting! It’s great to have a little love thrown Ole’s way! Although I think the caption under the photo is a bit misleading. It’s certainly an early rowboat motor, but not Ole’s first motor. That was lost years ago. Anyway, back to the basement to work on my slightly newer ’20 ERBM.
