to set the points. (.018)
When you have the flywheel off, you should be able to tell which coil goes to
the top cylinder.I have an email address in my notes for they guy that use to ? sell parts
for Olivers…… not sure it’s still good.

ralph simmonsApril 9, 2020 at 5:45 pm #199523set your spark advance to fast. and note which set of points is starting to open. those points connected to the coil will go the piston that is at or near TDC or top dead center. Works for me.Jim

ralphsimmons1234@gmail.comApril 20, 2020 at 2:50 pm #200597Don’t know if this applies to your motor or not, but I haven’t forgotten the Chris Craft/Oliver that drove me nuts about 60 years ago. Like yours, it absolutely refused to start or keep running. So, my question to you is, have you or anybody else had the carburetor off? The reed block is sealed to the crankcase by a big o-ring. When you reinstall the carburetor you must tighten the nuts hard enough to squish that o-ring enough so that the reed block bottoms out in the crankcase. If it is not bottomed out, the crankcase fuel/air charge simply passes up and down between the upper and lower chambers. Whether or not it runs at all, or just poorly, depends on how close to bottoming out you got that reed block.
Those can be great running motors.
