          Wow, that Mercury/Evinrude is wild.

Not much to photograph at this point. Mostly just a bunch of parts motors. While pulling down some motors today I discovered that the 1960 driveshaft fit the 1963 powerhead. The difference in the driveshafts must be in the lower unit. I haven’t torn down the 63 lower unit, yet, to know for sure. What is encouraging is that it appears the 1962-64 lower unit should swap with the 1958-61 superquiet motors as an assembly.

            Wayne,

Are the shift rod heights off the top of the gearcase the same? For some reason I seem to remember having to change the shift rod, but I may be wrong.

That’s a good question. The 60 I tore down was a longshaft and the shift Rod is different from the short shaft. The 63 was also a longshaft, but it’s electric shift so all I pulled was the powerhead. I have a 63 shortshaft still on the rack. I’ll compare parts when I get to it.
