So I was listening to an ad on the radio and I was saddened by the news that Johnson and Evinrude are stopping production. Is this true?
April 24, 2021 at 7:47 pm #236936That’s the word I heard.
April 24, 2021 at 7:47 pm #236937OMC filed for bankruptcy and has been out of business since late 2000. Bombardier bought up the remaining assets out of bankruptcy. Production of Johnson outboards stopped back in 2004 or so. On May 27, 2020, Bombardier announced they were stopping production of Evinrude outboards. So yes, no more Johnson or Evinrude.
So was this a joke or something?!

April 24, 2021 at 8:05 pm #236943No joke. I just haven’t heard until recently. Well, that sucks. Ole and Bess wouldn’t be happy.
I’ve been out of the hobby for a while. My shoulders are getting a bit aged and pop a lot when I move my arms certain ways, so I figured that I better chill on the pull ropes.
Besides that, I have a wife and a new daughter, so they take up my free time now.April 24, 2021 at 8:06 pm #236944search the net EVINRUDE ETECs are R.I.P sudden death
Yes it does. I imagine parts are harder to find now.

Although BRP is still providing parts after the shutdown, my local Evinrude dealer tells me his supply of factory parts is getting slower all the time now. He also says they are getting a little more difficult on warranty claims.

April 24, 2021 at 10:04 pm #236963I love my ETEC 150. Probably won’t be able to sell it or get much on a re-power trade-in, so I plan on running it until it just quits.

April 24, 2021 at 11:05 pm #236970If somebody would have told us 30 years ago that Johnson and Evinrude both would disappear, we would have thought it was a joke. Brand names can’t always overcome decades of mismanagement……just look at Sears and Remington. sad…
