While we are on the subject does anyone have or know of where I can get the shorter lever for one of these? mine has been repaired at some point in its life. Also a source for the shifter cable motor end would be great if someone has a source.

Mine is black with a red riveted on plate with Evinrude Simplex on it. It is also a ribbed version. About what year is this one from?

There’s a very similar shifter to that on eBay right now but I think it’s from a different year as the font on the name plate is different. It appears to be fully intact. Here’s the listing url:

While we’re on the subject, I recently purchased a very similar Evinrude Simplex control box to Wyo307’s but it is painted white (See pic below). I thought the white paint was original but upon closer examination I’m starting to think the original color was black and was later painted white. That’s okay because I kind of like it better white. I’m guessing it’s 1957 then based on the lettering style?

Part number 377775 shift lever was used on all years of controls of that general design (through 1960).

Thanks for the info guys! The shift lever is just as much as a whole new box on ebay so I may just go that route. I am a ways away from needing it yet anyways (the boat is still in pieces).

I have an NOS set of Ship-Master controls in Holiday Bronze, that I had purchased years ago.
I was going to use them when I switch my Feathercraft Vagabond over to the ’57 Johnson Javelin 35HP.
