June 26, 2024 at 9:27 am #288650Hi, I have the serial number rangers for Evinrude outboards from 1929-1960 in The Old Outboard Book by Peter Hunn, if you find the serial number the years for them according to the book are:
11,616-13,926
13,927-15,782
15,783-9,990
16,991-17889
20,000-20,930
20,931-22,534
22,535-25,096
25,097-29,174
29,175-33,434
33.435-39,155
39,156-43,565
43,566-47,252
-1944 there was no outboards made by Evinrude according to the book.
47,253-48,748
48,749-55,511
55,156-68,210
68,211-80,312
80,313-95,877
I don’t think it would go into the 1950s or later because they switched to a recoil starter around mid 1940s or so if I remember correctly.

June 26, 2024 at 10:33 am #288651does the shafts being made of brass mean it was made for salt water?

For the most part, motors from this time, with brass lower units, are considered salt water motors. Your motor looks to be in unusually nice original condition and many here would feel preserving the original decals would give it more historical value than replace them, if they are even available.
