The “hot horn” in a control box is dead. There is a “kit” to replace it costing around $100 but I think a generic buzzer or piezo noisemaker costs about $5.
Has anyone got experience in substituting these things? This style box if it matters: http://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1982&hp=90&model=E90MLCNB&manufacturer=Evinrude§ion=Remote+Control
It is kind of a pain to open up the box and get everything stuffed back in with no wires pinched, etc. Am thinking of just putting an alarm on the dash. Something like this, about ten bucks for a pack of two: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017YL31OY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
