October 1, 2024 at 10:27 pm #291263I’d be a bit hesitant about using the thin gaskets without the baffle plate as it might cause conflict between the top of the driveshaft and the crankshaft. There isn’t much wiggle room in there when assembled.
I’ve cut base gaskets using gasket paper from my auto supply. It comes in bulk and various thicknesses. The stuff I’ve used might have been around 0.030″ thick or thicker. Can’t remember. As long as it’s close to original it will work.

Looks like pics are working again.
October 7, 2024 at 11:53 am #291395I’ve been wondering if I could use “Form-A-Gasket” like Permatex #2 under a power head. Disadvantages?

Mumbles,
I took a close up of my CD-15 which happens to have the PH off. It looks like the gasket is closer to 1/16″, so that agrees with your estimate of 0.030″ or thicker. In my case, closer to 0.060″.
On your homemade gaskets, do you recall if you applied a gasket sealant? If so, what kind?
Thanks

1958 Johnson 5.5 Hp, CD-15October 15, 2024 at 12:45 pm #291521FWIW last spring I put the exhaust on a 1958 Evinrude together with two thin gaskets and the baffle plate, no sealer. Result was black goop from the exhaust leaking into the bottom tray of the powerhead. See photo. Looks like the thin gaskets were leaking. I will replace the gaskets and this time use E/J/ BRP part number 508235 sealant.
October 16, 2024 at 12:46 pm #291558In the picture I posted previously, I applied Permatex #3 Aviation gasket sealer to the powerhead base gaskets.

October 16, 2024 at 9:12 pm #291579If I find it necessary to use a sealer on a gasket, its the Permatex Aviation gasket sealer that Bob has mentioned. Tubs
