I have a basket case KG9 that I bought when I purchased a bunch of motors awhile back.

I know it is missing some things and I am not a Merc guy, but for some reason this motor intrigues me.

Just how are parts to get for one of these? I know I am missing the Tiller handle, and the part of the motor the it connects to with the primer, and gauge.

I have the complete cowling, most of the motor..I think. I also have the exhaust housing, transom clamp, and lower unit.

This motor has the wrap and pull start on it. I think it’s a 1950, but do not have the SN close by. I just found today a site with a parts breakdown so I can do a proper inventory and see what all might be missing. That is of course unless finding parts at a reasonable price would be a losing battle.

      Thanks for all.

I have a Q tower and drive shaft if needed.

I have a KF9. It was missing the tiller handle. I found one from a member a few years back. I paid more for the tiller handle than I paid for the motor. The dash shouldn’t be too hard to find. Cool motors!

I saw some parts on eBay, but they are way high as far as price goes!!! I only need the Dash and would have to buy 2 parts I already have.

I think the amount of parts I have is good with the exception of the Dash and Handle. I Know there are more bits to come by, but I think if I were to put this on a stand and start putting the puzzle back together it would look like a motor 😀 😀

                  viking66,

I have also seen the eBay sale and I can assure you that the seller is somewhat overpriced. It may help some of the members looking at your questions to know what model and serial number appear on the front of the motor hood. The matching serial number should appear on the side of the engine block as well. At first glance, the tower is not a standard fishing tower. It appears the tower may be a "Q" type race tower with a standard fishing gear case attached to it. Either that, or someone has cut off a piece of the exhaust.

Alright members, I have made my futile attempt to help. I know that there are a lot of Mercury guys out there that can help with this man’s project. Please chime in. He needs your educated opinions and leads for parts.

Thanks for the support IGL 😉

From all of my rading I know there are not a lot of these out there, and the ones that are are loved. I also learned that a lot of the handles went missing and they cut the part of the dash that secured the handle to it off. Crazy how things were done in the past.

The Model is KG9 and the SN listed on the front panel is: 405540. I was not able to locate an SN on the block, just some numbers stamped on the top and a place where I would think the SN might be that is blank.

                    See pics.

Being all apart like that reminds me of when guys used to bring me a bunch of parts in a box or "basket", with needles dripping thru the cracks, to fix. I’d ask why did you take it all apart? And they’d say – well, it wouldn’t start so I took it apart! Groan,,, 🙄

Miraculously, after it was apart it STILL wouldn’t start, eh!
