A good cleaning may be first order of business. After you can see what you have to work with
an orderly tear down may go easier. If my experience is any sort of guide…do not take apart more than one at a time. Focus on one until you get it back together! Do as I say not as I do advice.
Kiekhaefer reinvented the early K Models each model year. Some parts were carried thru from first to last while other evolved. Restoration to use may involve using what will
work while restoring to as it left the factory means a correct replacement for any needed
component.
Jason Baxter’s Wizard site is well worth time to review threads and pictures as the early
Kiekhaefers have much in common as well as a few differences. Each example of the Early K Model Kiekhaevers gives new lessons and knowledge.
USE your CAMERA to document before during and after. If you have a question a picture is
worth a 1,000 words and saves time.
Love the little mercs….they were good enough to start the company.
If you need a part I may have or be able to point you in right direction.
