Yup, another question. On my Johnson MD 39, I have the original plug, and a new plug. I put a new wire, boot, and new plug in, cause newer is always better right? But the new plug is too high to be able to raise up the rear cover. Are there shorter plugs available? I’ve seen a J6C suggested. And, it looks like I need to lose the boot.

You want a short lawn mower style with the same heat range. I don’t have the codes anymore for the NGK or Champion plugs but a small engine shop should be able to help you or try a Google search.

I believe the lawn mower/chainsaw plug is a CJ-8. But things change, so take a look at it.

Why not use the old plug? Looks way better than the new one IMO.

I need the old style clip that goes on the old plug. What’s that called? What’s a good source?

Check for plug fasteners on e-bay. I bought some brass/clip/circular hole, clip or solder plus brass thumbscrews. IHe was from MA and I believe it was something like the oldengine (?) seller name.

Rajah clip. Check member Russ Larson’s Martin site I think he has them and the Rajah boots as well

I bought mine off EBay under Harley Davidson restoration. They have all styles in solid brass in all thread counts for NGK and Champion or others. Not sure what thread count for NGK is , but I bet Mumbles knows!
