Trying to adjust the throttle to start opening butterfly in carb at the correct time. Is this little bitty mark the correct one to synchronize to? It’s the only mark I see. Thanks.

no… the just start to open cam marker should hit the roller (cam follower) much earlier see the marker on a 5.5 just to the right of the roller about 1 inch from the edge

but…. that cam is reversed from conventional cams …mine is narrow on the right yours is narrow on the left… so that said look at the small mark left of the pencil in the narrower portion of the cam edge itself

The photos have to be reversed?

weird….. did not think this would happen in modern digital days …

it use to happen with slides projected flipped pver …

ho well figured maybe a qd 14 worked backwards 🙂 I did not have a parts list to look up but sense something was screwy

my screwy prop on a johnson 5hp runs backwards 🙁

When I flip the photos, the coils get reversed??? The cam in the photos looks right going by the QD 14 parts manual. It must be in the linkage as these motors had different style carbs than later ones but shouldn’t the timing be retarded as the mag is turned the same direction as the motor turns?

Pic is normal. Has the early carb and it opens weirdly! Just wanted to make sure that was the right mark to go off of. Finally feel like working on something (covid) but my mind is foggy. Lol. .

Back to the original question, here’s the mark you want centered on the follower just as the carb butterfly is starting to open.

I’m not to familiar with these motors but the action on these carbs is reversed from normal? When it should be closing it is opening and when it should be opening, it’s closing? Clear as mud now! And didn’t they have Tillotson carbs on them?

I think That’s just a scratch. No mark there really. I have a parts motor I will look at to see if it has a similar mark. Let you know
