Hi all, I have to replace the prop on my 1956 Johnson 10hp. The one on the motor that has now slipped appears to be an older weedless prop from prior years. 376736 is the part number from the original parts list. And now I’ve found a 277595 OMC prop on ebay that appears to have writing on the box that says 10hp, 1956-XXX (I can’t make out the last year). My question is, can anyone confirm the diameter/pitch that would be best for this motor, or better still confirm the 277595 part number will fit. The ebay prop says 9X8.
Thanks.
February 4, 2024 at 4:28 pm #284633February 4, 2024 at 8:48 pm #284636Have you ordered and received the prop? If so, is it an OEM/OMC or aftermarket? Can you locate that part number you mention on it? I tried to find this part number, it is listed on marineengine.com, but just directs you to a 9×9 prop replacement. I can’t find a parts breakdown for you QD17 either. There is a weedless style you mentioned on ebay, but it is used and pricey. That 376736 part number comes up on marineengine.com, is obselete, but shows the last selling price of $5, so I think you have the wrong original part number.
Do you have the ebay link for the prop, or do you have a picture of the box/prop? Keeping in mind that the 10hps had the larger 15-18hp gearcase through 1957. 1958 went to the smaller gearcase which uses a different prop. I looked up the part numbers for the 1958 small gearcase 10hps, they don’t correspond to anything you posted.

55 Johnson CD12February 5, 2024 at 12:51 pm #284648There was a change in propeller hubs from a rubber shock hub to a “Slip Clutch” hub designed to slip under a certain overload as when striking a submerged object. This would account for the differing part numbers. Shear /drive material was changed also, with the slip hub having a stronger pin, usually stainless steel. Props are interchangeable as long as the correct drive pin is used. This chart shows the newer part numbers

slipped… as in the rubber insert has gone south ??
search googleor utubes… in a bind…till you find a good prop some have resorted to driving 2 screws 180 degrees apart in the prop hub to lock the insert in place
if you do use a brass drive pin

February 5, 2024 at 7:00 pm #284662Thanks all. I’ve ordered the 277595 that shows in the sheet from frankr. Should be here in about 4 to 6 days.
crosbyman: I sent the prop from the motor into a local shop and they were going to replace the hub and re-condition. This was the weedless version from an older motor (1954 stamped on the outside). When trying to push the old hub out, the internal bore shattered.
