Hello, this is my first post and I haven’t seen a search function so I have a couple of questions for cleaning this motor up. I don’t have a parts washer, but I would like to know what is the best way to clean up the cylinders without pulling it apart?  I do have the exhaust side off, so I can see the pistons. Also, on the bottom of the exhaust housing is a circle with 2 holes that cover/uncover a hole in the exhaust housing, what is this for?  Thank you and I hope to get a few pictures put up soon. Any help is appreciated.

Not sure if you’re talking about the “water cooled” ports in the exhaust
housing or not. You pictures will tell all.
About the only thing you can do to clean the cylinder without
taking it apart would be spraying in WD-40 or similar, and
using lots of compressed air. I would pour  some motor oil
      in the cylinder afterward.

Here are some pictures, the first is the circle on bottom of exhaust housing. The next shows the inside of flywheel with a yellow coating, third Pic is the date engraved, and last is a color Pic. I didn’t know what the circle was for as it seems to be connected to a rod up to the carb. It wish the rest of the motor was thar color. It was stored outside or somewhere the sun could get to it.  Thanks for looking.

The circle with the two holes on the exhaust housing / muffler are
the exhaust cut-out, which makes the motor easier starting by
        reducing crankcase backpressure.

The coating is a factory preservative I believe.
Nice that they put the date in the flywheel!

Thanks for the help. This is our first outboard, so somethings are a little different. Will try to keep posting pictures of the progress. Thanks again.
