Playing with the Scott-Atwater Firestone 3.6hp 🙂
Great mecanical condition, nice spark, compression, gear box full of grease … For 75$ CAD it s a winner 🙂
The tank is damaged, but some putty will help.
No rust at the seal, no leaks, Mumbles will be jealous 😛I will need :
– transfert decal (found those on aomcimngopherchapter.com , but I don’t like vinyl).
– head gasket (since it’s watercooled, could regular cardboard or gasket from CarQuest resist to compression/heat ??? )
– rubber for the handle.
– compression is ok, but maybe new rings while it’s in parts ?
– color code or supplier adress.
– the handle on the recoil is made of wood. Is it correct ? BTW it’s a nice one, not a quick and ugly hack.I should find new seals at the local SKF store.
Sorry to ask on "Ask a member", I usually support websites and hobby I like, but for now I can’t afford the registration as I did before 🙂
I ll post more picture.
It s not an exciting engine, but everybody likes pictures 🙂
It was just cheap, 75$ CAD and 6km away from home.And in the background it’s a Sun Sparcstation 1+ (9000$ without hardisk in 1990) , another toy 🙂
Thanks.

I sold my 57 this year to a member who had one as a young man, and I was glad to see it go to a very good home. I have a 55 also, and a 50. I have yet to do anything with the 50, but the 55 was a basket case left in a discard pile at a local repair shop. I felt sorry for it…..it was stuck pretty bad, but I was able to find a new piston on e-bay and a gasket set with a WTB add on the classified section. Even though it had some pretty good rust in the cylinder, with a fresh hone, new piston and rings, it runs great. These motors are kind of loud though, especially compared to a Lightwin or even an Elgin. (the only other motors I have in that power range.) Good luck with your restoration!

October 18, 2016 at 4:11 am #46044Is that a SPARCstation 1 (or two) in the background?
October 18, 2016 at 9:41 am #46045Those motors were pretty tough on head gaskets. I’d hate to see you try to make one from substitute stuff, when the real thing is available. http://www.laingsoutboards.com/scottmccullochparts.html

Phil B : yes, it’s a Sparcstation 1+. Without hardisk. I can build the 13W3 -> Vga adaptor, but i need to find a keyboard and a mouse …
I also had a Sparc IPC, complete with cdrom, external disk, tape, optical mouse and 16" screen 🙂
Running NetBSD since the old Sun OS is a bit outdated …
I used it as a dhcp server at my former job 😀########
Thanks for the link FranckR.
I will order the gasket from them, and maybe some other parts..########
cajuncook1 : done. Thanks.October 18, 2016 at 8:01 pm #46066"Phil B : yes, it’s a Sparcstation 1+. Without hardisk. I can build the 13W3 -> Vga adaptor, but i need to find a keyboard and a mouse …
