I have a 1956 RDE18 30HP. Compared to other RD18s the rubber suspension on this motor is very stiff. I have played with a parts motor enough to know that working on these mountings is not a fun job. My first (lazy) impulse is to put the motor together and run it to see if the suspension decides to loosen up. Does anyone have experience/comments with this situation?
Thank you

They do tend to harden up after many years. I don’t know of any cure except replace them or live with it. They really aren’t that hard to replace. A hoist to pick it up out of the steering bracket sure helps though.

Better too hard than too soft in my book. The soft ones seem to be all over the place when idling and more susceptible to shearing. Not difficult to replace them, but it does take some time.
