It’s a KA-xx series of motor and like you say, it’s rough.  It should be dull aluminum color but it has been painted green sometime in it’s life.  It also looks like it has been used lots in salt water. The late forties KD-15 motors were green and had a rewind starter on them, but not this model. Unless you want a real time consuming project motor, I’d steer clear of it,  especially for what he wants for it.

          Thanks Mumbles ..
This motor is about 20 mins from the house . Close enough to at least give it a look see . If I can get it for no more than 100 it may be worth it for a learning project . Or clean it up to display maybe ..

Update , the guy needed money after getting into an accident .. Paid 50 bucks for it .. Not sure what to do with it yet . Looks like everything is there . Not sure if its a separate part or not but the round tube that connects the carb with the crank case is broken . Its roughly a 1 inch tube or is that part of the carb casting ?

Yup, that tube is part of the crankcase.  The carb slides over it and is held on with a clamp.  It shouldn’t be hard to make one and weld it on.  Is the carb there?

Not the best angle but you get the idea.

Yes the carb is there .
So with the 2 small brackets that connect to the carb on top . In your picture it’s missing one link .
Do you control the throttle with the little knob on top of the carb ?
Or is the throttle also the timing plate handle . It advances time and throttle ..

In my photo I was fitting a new replacement carb to the motor, a KA-37.  It came with a 70’s style 18-20 horse carb taped onto it. The lever on top is the choke and the throttle is controlled by the mag lever.  The missing link in the photo is slotted and connects to a rod which opens and closes the idle air bypass valve on the bottom of the exhaust manifold. It’s a round disc with two holes in it and it should be cleaned out as they like to plug up with carbon from running on the required 8:1 fuel mix. Some models might be slightly different though.
