Goof Off might work. It’s great for removing fresh latex overspray and other things.

Just tried some WD 40 and the gasoline, neither of which did anything at all. Is it just too dried and too far gone, or should I try something stronger, like the ammonia?

Lighter fluid soaked into a rag works. Keep rubbing in small circles until the adhesive dissolves.

              The goof off definitely works.

I just went through a full gallon of the stuff last week removing 20 years of accumulated tape residue of all description from 100 locker doors . The boss wants a full restoration after a flood damaged the change rooms.

My co worker had to think for a minute when I warned not to get any on him. 😆

If you make sure the soapy mix is with warm water and reapply it as the goo finally loosens you should be good .You can get more aggressive (and lord knows I’ve thrown everything I can think of at old glue residue) but the ultimate outcome is always the same .the warm water in your solution with eventually soften the residue and the ammonia will help with the degreasing ,desticking. Always takes time and soaking though.

I guess the WD40 worked after all. I just tried to get it off with my fingernail, and surprisingly, it worked! The only problem is now sore fingers… But the motor looks 10 times better withou that hideous tape residue on it. Thanks to all that replied!
