I vaguely recall somebody on this site mentioning an O-ring as a replacement for the boss gasket.  Anyone have a part no or a source ?

I use them all the time and they work great Oz. I have a bunch of them and can send you some if you want.

Very curious:  what’s a “Boss gasket”?  Where are these o-rings used in the carb?

I figured he meant the gasket that goes around the high speed nozzle and sits atop the “boss” of the top 1/2 of the carb.

                  gotcha! Thanks.

This has me wondering:  could an o-ring (different size, obviously) be used on the needles in lieu of the packing washers?

People do it;  I have done it on occasion.  An o-ring will certainly accomplish the primary task at hand….to seal air from entering into the idle circuit.  However the other task is to allow for resistance to turning of the shaft and when you use o-rings you get a squishy rubbery feeling when you adjust the slow-speed needle.   A sort of temporary fix I would say.

As a boss gasket though…..O-rings do a fine job IMHO.  I use them all the time in that application.  Just be sure to get rings that can tolerate gasoline….like the ones mentioned above.
