Hello everyone. I have a 1956 evinrude 10 hp with a bad motor. Have a donor motor from a Johnson. I have to switch heads from the evinrude to the replacement motor because of the the cowl mounts. I’ve cleaned up all the threads inside the replacement block and cleaned up the threads on the head bolts. Question is do I need to lubricate the bolts upon installation. Thanks. Bryan.

You coat the bolts with OMC Gasket Sealing Compound prior to installing and torqueing.

Ensure that you use the proper torque sequence, in 3 stages.

First half torque, then 3/4, then the final torque setting.

Again, ensure that you start at the center bolt, and spiral outwards for each pass.

Thank you very much! Appreciate the help. Going to put it together this week hopefully and get it running.
